Good Etiquette in reincarnation communities

Postby Revolucion_bohemia on Mon May 12, 2008 11:58 pm

Some good manners in reincarnation places are just good manners for every other place, since others are specific. So here i post some simple forms everybody should follow if they want to keep a reincarnation community a quiet place.

Take a time to READ the forum for a while until posting controversial matters: There are some places that accept talking about parallel lives, alien past lives, etc, some other forums have specific sections for those topics (like this one), in other places is just forbidden to talk about it (like WTT). So if you see that people are reluctant to talk about those topics, expect a lot of crap from members if you brought them in, if you believe in them it`s ok, believe what you want, but respect the group you`re in, constantly talking about them would mean that you want to impose your ideas.

If you`re throwing a bomb expect to see buildings falling over you: If you just come to the forum, you are not known from other reincarnation places, you don `t have too much experience with reincarnation, and you claim to be Henry VIII, people will question you a lot, and interrogate you, and you have no right to feel offended. So, if you`re not ready to defend logically your story (specially if it`s famous) don`t post it, because you have no right to feel offended then.

If you are not a troll, but you act like one, you will be treated as one: If you abuse Pms, post constant weirdness, make a scandal, play games, and you`re not serious, you don`t obey admins orders, you`ll be considered a troll, good manners please!

Out someone else is a mortal sin: if you tell the story or the name of someone who told you who he was but didn`t post it on the forum for security reasons, consider you dead. You break someone`s trust, you break everyone`s trust.

Don`t desvirtuate topics just to preach: If people are talking about how nice the day is, they care a s*** if it`s nice because God created it and everyone should be grateful, or if it`s nice because in our multiple parallel lives that you know well because so and so something happened.

Well, that s all for now friends, feel free to add more :D
Alles gute

I'm going to sticky this- Great topic.

A few to add-

Leave your quarrels at the door- One of Masonic Charges is that no private Piques or Quarrels must be brought within the Door of the Lodge. If two brothers cannot settle their differences well enough to be civil and not disrupt the workings of the lodge, than one, or preferrably both should not enter because their doing so will only serve as a disruption and discourtesy to their fellow brothers. Personally, while this most certainly is not a Masonic Lodge, the rule should still apply. We all have people who we would really like to smash in the face with a 2x4. and if you find that there is another person that you simply cannot deal with because of personal reasons, then the best course of action would be to notify a moderator, or just simply ignore them.

Act like an adult- Maturity is something that should be expected. Sure, we all like to mess around, but there is a time and a place for fun and there is a time for seriousness. Note- This is intellectual maturity, not actual physical age.

Treat people with respect, even if you dont agree with them- There are all kinds of people out there, and (Gasp!) oftentimes they see things in a different way than you might. This is a common and expected thing. Quarrels and arguments will occur, and oftentimes things get heated, especially when discussing hot button topics. Heated discussion is allowed, personal attacks are not.

Dont be a Guru Guess What, you are not the know all, end all, be all of any particular subject. no matter how much you know (or think you know), there will always be someone out there who knows more than you. Just because you believe something doesnt mean that everyone else does- or should believe it as well.

And I will reiterate the earlier topic- Dont out people. Sure, sometimes it happens- we're human, and sometimes we make mistakes. But it is generally considered bad form to knowingly out someone on a forum, particularly a reincarnation forum. Particularly because usually those who do the outing are doing it for trivial reasons, or just to be an asshole.

I just wanted to throw on a third voice to this. I am glad this forum has this as a posted point of etiquette/rule. Being outed by someone on a forum is a horrible feeling. I've had it happen personally and the person was actually wrong about the life in question and it resulted in quite a few people deciding I was nuts. We were kicking around ideas and memories in IM and the person posted that I thought I might have been a certain famous person. This was something I didn't want anyone on the forum to know I was even thinking about, especially since it wasn't a claim I was even making. I've seen outing happen on accident and you have to be forgiving of that but basically it boils down to being extra careful before talking about anyone else's memories or lives if you know them or have talked or IMed or e-mailed outside of the forum. You just have to keep in mind what you've been told and what the rest of the forum knows.

Yes, I know I'm really new here and shouldn't start chiming in on rules. I've been told I can come off -insert your choice of a word that means loud and bossy here-.

It`s ok that you comment to rules if you`re new (Specially if you agree =D lol).
Yeah, being outed is a crap, in my case the result was that i became careless though. But it produced the death of a nice yahoo group.

About the outing- People have strong emotional reactions to some lives. There are some past people we'd love to hit over the head with a 2x4. As well there are people who are worshippers. We tend to do a pretty good job of keeping ourselves civil even with who might be considered the worst of offenders. But there tend to be that one or two in the group who just can't resist the urge to mess with someone they've been itching to mess with for some time. Hopefully they don't stick around for too long. That's the work of the mod's.

The other thing about outing is that not all of us have verified ourselves to satisfaction. Someone might be dealing with some personal issues that are blocking verification, or might be having trouble finding sources they trust, or might be focusing on a persona while not yet honing in on who they really were. Outing someone forces that someone to defend themselves with evidence they may not have. It may lead to the displeasure of an early public recantation. It's easier to admit mistaken identity to one or two close friends. Even if the forum is decent and compassionate there may be that person or two who travels the forums and has munition to out you on another forum you happen to both be on.

Even though this is a more secluded (for the moment) reincarnation forum and not CNN it might be useful to think of laying a claim on the table as potentially being as public. Your own or someone else's. Being in a private atmosphere may feel more comfortable to let our hair down. But I remember watching a certain Marilyn Monroe claimant who went public. On television at a memorial service for Monroe she was told by the president (if I remember) of a Monroe fan club, an older chap who met Monroe, that he saw nothing in her that resembled Marilyn. I'd hate to have that happen to me. I'm sure you guys would hate to have that happen to you. So, let's not out each other.
